Sommario/riassunto: Carl Maria von Weber's classic German opera met with instant success on its premiere in Berlin in 1821. Within a short time it had spread throughout Europe. This production by Achim Freyer, is set in the style of nineteenth-century classic fairy tale but with the events in the plot seen through contemporary eyes. It has a blend of rustic humour, a dash of the supernatural and the eventual triumph of good over evil.
